COSSATOT - Bring your own snorkeling equipment and explore the quiet pools and gentle rapids of the Cossatot River. [NOTE: Before embarking on your snorkeling journey, first check the river's water levels by contacting the park visitor center. High water levels can be dangerous, and when the Cossatot is high following rainfall, this wild and scenic river turns to whitewater, including Class IV rapids in its Cossatot Falls area.] When the water level is normal, you can swim, fish, float and snorkel through riffles and small rapids from pool to pool. Snorkeling here is a wonderful way to discover the colorful aquatic life below the river's transparent surface. Make it a day trip, or bring your tent and camp at access points that stretch along the river. This is a wonderful wilderness adventure for families.

DEGRAY LAKE RESORT - For a great family activity, join park interpreters for an island snorkeling adventure. You'll get to take a boat ride to an island, learn how to use a mask and snorkel, and then explore the underwater world of DeGray Lake. Along the way, your guides will point out fish, rocks, plants and mussel shells. When you're through, you can take your snorkel with you to use on future outings. These trips are offered almost daily during the summer months here at Arkansas's resort state park.

LAKE OUACHITA - Experience Arkansas's largest lake in a whole new way, underwater! Lake Ouachita is one of the clearest lakes in this area-renowned as Arkansas's Diamond Lakes region-and is a popular location for scuba diving, snorkeling and all watersports. Lake Ouachita State Park's "Underwater Discovery" is a weekly snorkeling experience showcasing the fish that inhabit this lake. Participants will see largemouth bass, bream, shad and crayfish. You'll also see large underwater boulder fields, moss beds and shell embankments that are home to a variety of aquatic life. The park provides a rental mask and snorkel for these programs and requires that flotation devices be worn during the entire trip.
